Social Studies Alpha-8th Grade Alpha Assignments

Your last official assignment for Social Studies is to complete this form no later than WEDNESDAY June 3rd. Please pick different graduates for the different categories and only use a graduate ONCE. You will have some left over so don't worry about that but please be sure to include EVERYONE and HAVE FUN!!!!

This week we'll be discussing 9/11. We will have all the 8th graders on 1 call at 2pm. Prior to that, please fill out this form no later than 12pm Wednesday. It should only take 2 minutes. The call may go longer than the normal 30 min which is why I would like you all on the 2pm call.

Several students have told me that this morning they were unable to register for the townhall. This is why I said to do it on Monday as it was filling up. If you are on the call, that is your participation grade for the week. If you are unable to attend, I would like you to complete steps 1-5 from the Eric Liu preparation sheet attached here. You and a Partner of your choosing are going on a virtual road trip! Even though we can't go on a real vacation, we can still go on a virtual one. You will research the costs of the trip and where you plan to go, where to stay, the gas it will cost, and anything else you need to figure out for the trip. All the instructions and the rubric is attached. I will be able to answer any questions on Wednesday during our weekly chat. The due date will be Monday April 27th.

Now that you have analyzed the documents, you have a choice to either write a 5 paragraph essay OR create a project (slideshow, prezi, flip grid, video) that answers the following question: Which Civil Rights Leader's method was more beneficial during the 1960s.
If you choose an essay:
There should be 5 paragraphs (intro with hook and thesis, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion). Your paper should use documents to support your thesis

If you choose a project:
You can use any of the aforementioned methods to make a project. The project should also be supported by the documents and visually appealing.

You will do an APART analysis on each of the documents attached to write a narrative on Malcolm X vs MLK. The APARTs can be done on paper and scanned OR on a Google Document. The final product will be due next week and will be addressed in a separate assignment
