About Me
My name is Xiaodong Zhang. This is my 32nd year teaching at James Ward School. I taught second grade from 1992 to 2021. I also taught 2nd- 8th bilingual students during the past two years. I hold a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Chinese, and a master’s degree in Education. I am certified to teach all students including Chinese bilingual and ESL (English as a Second Language) students from Kindergarten to 9th grade. I am also a National Board-Certified Teacher (NBCT). I was a K-3 Math Common Core State Standards lesson writer for Chicago Teachers’ Union. My educational background, teaching experience and professional goals continue to help me to be a better teacher for my students.
I have high expectations for my students. I expect every student to improve skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking throughout the school year. Students will gain knowledge from the learning of all subjects and real life experiences. Students’ critical thinking skills will be enhanced through problem solving, hands-on activities, interactions with other students, and the process of writing. They will also learn to be a helpful, caring, hardworking, and risk-taking citizen in our learning community. I want to partner with parents to help the students to achieve these learning goals.
我的名字叫张小东，我是你们孩子的老师。从1992年至2021年我在华德小学教二年级。因为工作需要，在过去的两个学年，我教二年级至八年级的双语学生。我获有中文学士和硕士学位及教育硕士学位。我拥有教华裔双语学生和英文是第二外语学生的资格。我还拥有全美教师执照，这是一个教师能获取的最高资格。我参与过芝加哥教师工会主办的幼稚园至三年级新教学大纲数学教案的编写工作。我的教育背景、教学经验及职业理想和目标将帮助和激励我成为一个学生们更好的老师。
我对孩子有很高的期望。我希望在这一年中，每个学生根据自己的情况不断提高听、说、读、写的能力，并在学习各门学科及生活实例的过程中增长知识。他们还将在解决问题、动手操作、与他人合作及做各种项目的过程中提高思考能力。在我们学习的集体里，他们还将学习成为乐于助人、关心他人、刻苦用功、勇敢进取、善良友爱的好公民。我要跟家长们合作，帮助孩子们达到这些学习目标。
